Move-In Kit Online Campaign

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. At Alameda Municipal Power, we can impact the lives of Alameda residents we serve by raising funds for Building Futures’ Midway Women’s and Children’s Shelter in Alameda. Building Futures aims to connect 150 households to housing in the year ahead. As these survivors rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness and domestic violence, most will be moving into their new homes with only a few personal items. AMP will be collecting donations to fund “move-in kits” full of necessities for newly housed families. Each move-in kit costs about $360 and contains cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies, a microwave, bedding, and bath supplies. Last year, we were thrilled to have met our goal! We raised $1,845 from 11 people donating. In support of Public Power Week 2024, let’s put our power to good and donate today!

By making an online donation here, you can "shop" for a newly housed family with Building Futures' housewarming “gift registry”. The donated money is used to buy the most-needed items and fill in the gaps for families. The aim is to provide the necessary items a family might need for the first month of housing.

How you can contribute:

Complete Move-In Kit: Sheets, pillows, comforter for a mom and two kids. Pot and pan, plates, bowls, mugs, flatware, cooking utensils, microwave, bath towels, washcloths, shower curtain, broom and dustpan. Plus, bonus gift card and mattress / microwave! Fund an entire kit for $360 to make the biggest impact!

Bedding: For each family member: Set of sheets and pillowcases, delightful comforter, soft pillows, transitional mattress. $200 helps little ones have sweet dreams in their new home.

Microwave: Small and compact. Some people are coming from not having a kitchen for years and will be using a microwave a lot! Give $100 for one family’s microwave!

Kitchen supplies: saucepan and top, frying pan, plates, bowls, mugs, flatware, cooking utensils! Give $85 to stock a kitchen! 

Bath time: Bath towels, washcloths, shower curtain, broom and dustpan. $45 helps the family stay clean and cozy!

Gift cards are amazing, allowing the family flexibility to choose what they need most as they move into their new home! $25 for a gift of the family’s choosing.
